Let’s get to the important part first.

Will SOPA affect Porn?

Potentially, YES!

****************

To get a better understanding of how SOPA will affect your life (and it most certainly will), check out this video here.

Here’s the Breakdown:

The “Stop Online Piracy Act” or SOPA is a bill made by the entertainment industry FOR the entertainment industry without any input whatsoever from the technology sector. Every time a new, game-changing technological innovation comes down the pike, these Hollywood fat cats shit their pants and bitch and moan about their profits dwindling and will do anything and everything to stymie their imagined financial hemorrhaging. They even sued the VCR when it first came out, alarmed that it would be the end of the movie business, but unsurprisingly, studio revenues skyrocketed.

Broadcasters were up in arms when the DVR exploded on the scene, making the argument that it was kaput for the television sector because people could skip through advertisements. In actuality, the DVR resurrected massive interest into T.V again.

Same goes for the music industry. Back in the 1920’s, the record business cried about the invention of the goddamn radio, postulating that because radio is free, there was no way they could compete and it would stop the public from ever purchasing music again.

New paradigm-shifting technology like the VCR, the DVD, the MP3, and the Internet will always shake up existing markets. The trick is to be ahead of the curve. Accept the change is happening. Then discover new ways of making profits through new distribution methods and platforms and explore alternative business models.

It’s only the short-sighted, out-of-touch aristocracy who can’t or won’t evolve. When was the last time you’ve been to a movie theater? Everything is either a shite reboot, remake or some dogshit “re-imagining.” People aren’t as dumb as studios think. People get sick of the same, formulaic, soul-crushing, completely banal trash that passes today as “cinema verite.” Anyway, I’m getting sidelined here.

Today, the internet spoke. You may have noticed that all the big shakers and movers on the web have effectively blacked out their services. This is to give you a small taste of the shape of things to come if SOPA does indeed pass next week. Imagine a world where Youtube is gone. Facebook? Yeah, FB will be reduced to a tightly controlled and monitored, neutered and threadbare platform, scrubbed completely clean of any sharing of clips, songs, and works that aren’t copyrighted. A world where any upstart website can be immediately shunned and blackballed and banned just for having one single link to infringed material.

Why You Should Give a Damn About SOPA

1.) Kiss goodbye Youtube, Facebook, and pretty much any site that accepts user-submitted content.

2.) IF SOPA passes in the United States, other countries that like to copycat laws from us WILL follow suit.

3.) IF SOPA passes, the U.S Attorney General can and will shut down any website in question – completely bypassing DUE PROCESS.

4.) SOPA fucks with the most basic and fundamental powers of the internet – EXPRESSION. Do you want your internet to be censored like fucking China’s? Or Afghanistan’s?

I have no idea the chances of SOPA actually passing. But I do know that if it does, don’t think for one nanosecond that all that absolute power and control won’t be abused by the government.
